One of our members, Karl Swenson, does a lot of flying for coastal Massachusetts cities and towns to track changes in the natural landscape, especially after storms hit the region. Here’s a great photo of Karl’s that made it into the March 2018 issue of TIME Magazine and the story behind it:
“I am always interested in coastal storms and erosion and have been taking shoreline photography for more than ten years. In March 2018 we had some pretty serious coastal storms back to back. The weather was clearing and I took N724CA our for a look at was likely happening to Scituate.
Over Pegotty Beach in Scituate I took the photograph of the beach homes that you see here. It was a pretty sad sight and I didn’t expect them to last.
I shared the photo with the National Weather Service as a storm report. Time Magazine saw it and the NWS put me in contact with them. It made it into a two page spread in Time. I call it my 15 seconds of fame. “
